Method for selective detection and quantification of palitoxinas by its toxic effect on excitable cells. The present invention relates to a method for the detection and quantification of systematic palytoxin and its derivatives (PLTXs) in test samples by utilizing excitable cells and a selective inhibitor of cytotoxicity PLTXs. Adding to the cells of test samples contaminated with PLTXs decreases cell viability in proportion to the concentration of existing PLTXs in the sample. The presence of inhibitor toxicity PLTXs during exposure of the cells to test samples contaminated with PLTXs specifically prevents toxicity.
